Local Charity Leader and Lions Friend Awarded Royal Honour

At Chepstow and Caldicot Lions, we’re proud to champion the incredible charities making a real difference across Monmouthshire. One organisation especially close to our hearts is Ready Steady Go, a youth group offering vital support to children and their families, both before and after diagnosis.

Their work is transformative. Their commitment is unwavering. And at the centre of it all is Tracy Rowland, the founder and Charity Manager whose dedication has shaped the lives of countless families in our community.

This year, Tracy’s extraordinary service was recognised at the highest level. She was named in the New Year Honours List by His Majesty King Charles III and awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her outstanding contribution to charity and her advocacy for autistic children.

During one of our recent chats, we even joked about whether we should start practising our curtsies for her new title:  Tracy Rowland, BEM.

What is the British Empire Medal?

The British Empire Medal (BEM) honours individuals who deliver hands‑on, practical service within their local community. It recognises:

  • Long‑term voluntary or charitable work
  • Exceptional service that makes a meaningful difference to local people

The BEM sits just below the MBE and is awarded to those whose dedication strengthens and uplifts their community.

London Calling

On 24 February, Tracy was invited to 10 Downing Street for the St David’s Day Reception, nominated by her MP, Catherine Fookes. This moment wasn’t just a personal milestone, it was a powerful platform for raising awareness of neurodiversity and highlighting the daily challenges faced by vulnerable children.

Reflecting on this honour and the trip to London, Tracy spoke fondly of this achievement:

“It means so much to myself and RSG and has already brought so much positivity and awareness of our Ready Steady Go Charity and also on a personal level, given me some absolutely thrilling memories to cherish already” – Tracy Rowland BEM
