Last night, the Chepstow and Caldicot Lions, and their partners, gathered for a delightful meal at the Huntsman Inn in Shirenewton. However, this was no ordinary meal; it was the annual Handover evening, where new officers are sworn in for the upcoming Lionistic year, which starts on July 1st.
Our guest speaker this year was Regional Chair and 2nd Vice District Governor, Lion Glyn Williams. He was delighted to see the club growing in numbers again and that we had conducted the ceremonial event in the true spirit it was intended.
Lion President Denise Harrison, continuing as President for her fourth consecutive year, spoke of the challenges faced over the last three years and the devastating losses we have endured over the past year, with the passing of two senior Lions and a former Lion, all dear to our hearts.
On a positive note, we have inducted eight new Lions in the last month, and we are gearing up for a full year of new activities to support the communities of Chepstow and Caldicot.
As is customary, the evening also served as a forum for the President to award certificates and trophies to those who have made the most impact over the past year.
Lion Phil received the Lion of the Year award for his exceptional work in mastering the club finances and stepping up as Treasurer. Lion Katia received a certificate for her support in organising social events throughout the year, and Lion Brian W was recognised with a certificate for his continued efforts in managing the club's social media.
And finally, 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Glyn awarded two trophies, one for Pembroke School, and the other for Chepstow and Caldicot Lions for the amazing success in the national 2023 Lions Roar competition.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the staff of the Huntsman Hotel for the delightful food and their friendly, welcoming service.
